The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server designed for organisations that need dense compute and storage in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor at 1.9 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 memory. The chassis supports up to two processors and 24 DIMM slots for future expansion. Eight 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays accept SAS or SATA drives and the PERC H330 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60.

Thermals noise and power

Dual 750 W hot-swap redundant power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails or needs replacement. The 2U form factor uses front-to-back airflow tuned for rack environments, so fan speed ramps with inlet temperature and workload. Acoustic output is typical for a rackmount server and is not intended for quiet office spaces. Power draw scales with processor count, memory population and drive activity, staying within the 750 W supply rating under normal load.

Storage capacity limit

Maximum supported raw capacity is 64 TB across the eight drive bays when populated with large-capacity SAS or SATA drives. The installed configuration provides two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives, leaving six bays free for growth. Buyers who need more than 64 TB of internal storage must look at external arrays or a different chassis. The PERC H330 handles the supported RAID levels without a dedicated cache module.
