The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server designed for data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure and high-performance computing nodes. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors, each running at 2.5 GHz with 12 cores and a 3.3 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules installed in 24 available slots.

Hot-swap components simplify deployment

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays support hot-swap SAS hard drives, allowing storage changes without downtime. The PERC H730 controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through modes with a 1 GB cache battery. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 8 Enterprise remote management are also hot-swappable. The quad-port network daughter card combines two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections on a single mezzanine slot.

Verify rack depth and SAS backplane

Confirm your rack can accommodate a 2U chassis with the included ready rails and front bezel. Ensure the SAS backplane matches the eight 1.2 TB 10K drives supplied, as the PERC H730 manages only SAS and SATA devices. Check that the LGA 2011-3 socket and Intel C610 chipset align with any planned processor upgrades, bearing in mind the maximum of two processors is already reached.
