The DELL PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases and high-performance computing workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v3 processors, each with 18 cores at 2.3 GHz and a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 768 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots.

24-bay 2.5" SAS/SATA chassis

Storage density is the defining specification: the front panel holds 24 hot-swap trays for 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, served by a Dell PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through. No drives are installed, so buyers must supply their own SAS or SATA HDDs or SSDs to populate the bays.

768 GB DDR4 with 1.5 TB ceiling

The 768 GB configuration uses 24 modules of 32 GB DDR4-2133, filling every slot. Memory can scale to 1.5 TB when larger modules become available, but the current installation leaves no empty slots for simple expansion. Buyers who need more memory must replace existing modules rather than add to them.
