The PowerEdge R730xd mounts in a 2U rack space and runs two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots and a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache. Quad-port networking adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links while iDRAC 8 Enterprise handles remote management.

Sustained load behaviour in a 2U chassis

Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies feed both CPUs and the 24-bay 2.5-inch drive cage without throttling under continuous database or virtualisation traffic. The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through so mixed read-write streams stay consistent. Hot-swap bays and dual power paths keep the platform online during drive or supply replacement.

Only twenty-four 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drives fit in the front cage so storage density tops out at the number of installed devices. Buyers who need more raw bays must choose a larger chassis because the 2U form factor cannot expand beyond this limit.
