The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors, each delivering 24 cores at 2.10 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. With 768 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory installed across 24 slots, the platform targets virtualisation clusters, database workloads and high-performance computing tasks that demand high core counts and large memory capacity.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies and hot-swap bays

Dual 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide N+1 redundancy and hot-swap replacement without downtime. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SAS or SATA media and are served by the PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache, supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. The iDRAC 9 Enterprise module enables remote power, console and firmware management over a dedicated network interface.

Sustained throughput with 12 Gb/s SAS and 10 GbE

The H730P controller operates at 12 Gb/s across all eight bays, maintaining consistent bandwidth for mixed read-write patterns during extended jobs.
