The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz, each offering 16 cores. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 modules and a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Two 400 GB SATA SSDs are installed in the front bays.

Check rack depth and network needs

The chassis uses sliding rails and occupies 2U of rack height; verify your cabinet depth before ordering. Network connectivity relies on an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, so confirm you have compatible SFP+ transceivers and switch ports. The system supports a maximum of two processors, which are already populated.

Hot-swap drive bays and redundant power

Eight 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays allow drive changes without downtime, and the PERC H730P supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy, and iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote console, power control and firmware updates over a dedicated management port. A front bezel is included.
