The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It targets organisations that need high core counts in a compact form factor for virtualisation, database or high-performance workloads. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight modules.

Enterprise storage controller

A Dell PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through for the eight 300 GB 10K SAS drives installed in the 2.5-inch bays. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network topology. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and hot-swap drive bays support continuous operation.

Remote management and ready-to-rack hardware

iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band control including virtual console, power cycling and hardware health monitoring from any browser.
