The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors running at 2.10 GHz with eight cores each. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules. The system includes a PERC H730P storage controller and eight 400 GB SATA solid-state drives. Dual hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundant power with headroom for the installed components. The 2U chassis uses Dell’s engineered airflow path to move air across the processors, memory and drive bays. Acoustic profiles are tuned for data-centre deployment rather than office proximity. Power draw scales with CPU utilisation and drive activity under normal mixed workloads.

Sustained load on dual 8-core CPUs

Under continuous heavy utilisation both Xeon Silver 4110 processors can maintain elevated frequencies up to the 3.0 GHz turbo level within the platform thermal envelope. The PERC H730P controller with its 2 GB cache sustains RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 operations across the eight SATA SSDs. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides remote monitoring and management throughout extended compute runs. The quad-port network daughter card offers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links for steady data throughput.
