The Dell PowerEdge R740 fits two Xeon Gold 6130 processors into a 2U rack chassis. Each CPU delivers 16 cores at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 768 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots, leaving headroom to reach the 3 TB maximum. It targets workloads that need high core counts and large memory capacity in a standard rack footprint.

Redundant platinum power supplies

Dual 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide hot-swap redundancy. The 2U form factor uses Dell's engineered airflow path to move heat across the CPU sockets, memory risers and storage controller without relying on oversized fans. iDRAC 9 Enterprise gives remote thermal monitoring and power capping so operators can balance performance against rack-level power budgets.

Eight 2.5-inch bays with hardware RAID and 10 GbE

The front panel accepts eight SAS or SATA drives served by a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery-backed write cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. A quad-port daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links without consuming a PCIe slot. Ready rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack integration.
