The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. It targets organisations that need high thread density for virtualisation, database workloads or compute-intensive applications. The platform supports up to two processors and uses the Intel C620 chipset.

128 GB DDR4 with 3 TB ceiling

The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules, occupying eight of the 24 available DIMM slots. This leaves substantial headroom to scale toward the 3 TB maximum capacity as workloads grow. Storage is handled by a Dell PERC H730P 2 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, driving eight 1.2 TB 10K SAS hard drives in the 2.5-inch bays.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Dual hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation in demanding environments.
