The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 20 cores each. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots, supporting up to 3 TB total capacity. The system targets virtualisation, database and high-performance computing workloads that demand high core counts and large memory footprints.

Hot-swap drive bays and redundant power

Eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA hot-swap trays are accessible from the front, though no drives are installed. A Dell PERC H730P 2 GB controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through modes with battery-backed cache.
