PowerEdge R740 2U rack server

The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for demanding workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors, each running at 2.1GHz with 12 cores. The system includes 768GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots. It targets organisations that need dense compute and storage in a standard rack footprint.

Storage and networking interfaces

The PERC H730P controller supports SATA and SAS drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Eight 2.5-inch drive trays are populated with caddies but contain no drives. Network connectivity uses a quad-port daughter card providing two 1GbE ports and two 10Gb SFP+ ports. Maximum memory capacity reaches 3TB when all 24 slots are filled.

Dual Xeon Silver 4116 configuration

This unit is fixed at the maximum of two processors; no further CPU upgrades are possible. Buyers who need higher core counts or newer instruction sets must choose a different platform. The LGA 3647 socket and Intel C620 chipset define the upgrade boundary. The 750W redundant power supplies support the installed configuration.
