The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 12 cores each. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots and eight 300 GB 10K SAS drives. The platform targets compute-intensive applications that benefit from GPU or FPGA accelerator cards and scalable storage.

Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies

Dual hot-swap 750 W platinum-rated power supplies provide redundancy without a single point of failure. The integrated iDRAC 9 Enterprise controller enables out-of-band remote management, firmware updates and power monitoring over a dedicated network interface. System fans adjust speed based on inlet temperature and workload, keeping acoustic output proportional to thermal load.

H730P RAID controller.

The PERC H730P with 2 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode, allowing flexible volume layouts for the eight drive bays. A quad-port network daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for storage and compute traffic separation.
