The Dell PowerEdge R740 fits into a standard 2U rack space and ships with a single Intel Gold 6148 processor running at 2.4 GHz with 20 cores and 27.5 MB cache. It includes 64 GB of DDR4 memory arranged as four 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. Two 480 GB SATA SSDs are pre-installed behind the H730P RAID controller.

Sustained Multi-Core Throughput

The 20-core CPU maintains its 2.4 GHz base frequency across all cores during extended compute tasks such as database indexing or hypervisor scheduling. Redundant 1100 W power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides out-of-band monitoring and firmware updates without interrupting the host operating system.

PCIe Gen 3 Expansion Limits

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for additional network cards, storage controllers or accelerators.
