The Dell PowerEdge R740 arrives as a 2U rack system with two Gold 6132 processors running at 2.6 GHz, each providing 14 cores and 19.25 MB cache. Memory is populated with 16 modules of 32 GB DDR4 PC4-2400 for a total of 512 GB. Eight 2.5-inch bays hold 120 GB SATA RI SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller.

PCIe Gen 3 and 10 Gb Ethernet limits

The chassis offers up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for additional adapters. Network connectivity uses an Intel X550 NDC delivering two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports. Storage throughput is bound by the SATA interface on the installed SSDs and the H730P controller. No optical drive is fitted.
