The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 packs two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each with 14 cores at 2.6GHz, into a 2U rack chassis. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 memory across four 16GB modules supports virtualisation clusters and database workloads. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays provide room for storage growth beyond the factory-installed pair of 7.68TB SAS SSDs. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots allow GPU, networking or storage accelerator expansion.

Sustained throughput with H730P RAID

The H730P controller manages the dual 7.68TB SAS SSDs with hardware RAID, delivering consistent read and write bandwidth under prolonged database or analytics jobs. Dual 1100W redundant power supplies keep the system running during a single-unit failure without throttling CPU frequency. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote power cycling, firmware updates and sensor monitoring so administrators can react to thermal events before performance drops. Intel X550 networking provides two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 links for steady data ingest.

Rack-ready build with included rails

The 2U chassis slides into standard racks using the supplied rails, and the front bezel without an LCD keeps the face clean for dense row deployments. Eight hot-plug 2.5-inch bays let technicians swap drives without tools or downtime. Redundant 1100W power supplies are also hot-pluggable, so a failed unit can be replaced while the server stays online. No optical drive is fitted, freeing internal cabling space for additional PCIe cards or cabling.
