The PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for storage-dense workloads. Two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors each run eight cores at 2.1 GHz with a 3.0 GHz turbo. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory fill four of the 24 available slots. Twelve 3.5-inch drive trays accept SATA or SAS drives for large-capacity arrays.

Installation with rails and iDRAC 9

Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for standard rack mounting. The server uses redundant hot-swap 750 watt platinum power supplies that can be replaced without downtime. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides full remote management from deployment through firmware updates. Memory population rules for the 24 DIMM slots must be followed to avoid POST errors.

Sustained load with dual CPUs and redundant power

Dual Xeon processors and the C620 chipset maintain performance during extended compute or storage tasks. Redundant power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. The quad-port network daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links for continuous data movement. The 2U chassis airflow is designed for steady thermal equilibrium under full processor and drive utilisation.
