The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 modules and a Dell PERC H730P RAID controller with 2 GB cache. Twenty-four 400 GB SATA SSDs fill the front drive bays, delivering high-density flash storage for software-defined storage, virtual desktop infrastructure or service-provider workloads.

Verify rack space power and networking

Confirm your rack can accommodate a 2U chassis and that the facility provides redundant power circuits for the two 1100 W platinum-efficiency supplies. The motherboard uses LGA 3647 sockets and the Intel C620 chipset with 24 DDR4 slots, so any future memory upgrades must be registered ECC DDR4 modules. Network connectivity relies on an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports; ensure your top-of-rack switches have compatible SFP+ transceivers and cabling.

Included rails bezel and remote management

Sliding ready rails and a front bezel are supplied, allowing immediate rack mounting without separate rail kits. The iDRAC 9 Enterprise licence enables full out-of-band management, virtual console and remote firmware updates over a dedicated management port.
