The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for workloads that demand high drive counts in a compact form factor. It ships with twenty-four 400 GB SATA SSDs installed across twenty-four 2.5-inch bays. Dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide twenty-four cores total at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. One hundred twenty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 registered ECC memory occupy eight of twenty-four slots.

Rail Mounting and Cable Routing

The unit includes Ready Rails for standard four-post racks and a front bezel for a clean appearance. Redundant 1100-watt platinum power supplies are hot-swappable from the rear. The PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. Quad-port networking uses an X520/I350 daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote power, console and firmware updates without an operating system.

Confirm your rack depth accommodates the 2U chassis with cables connected at the rear. Ensure the facility provides two independent power circuits for full redundancy. The LGA 3647 sockets are fully populated so no additional processors can be added. Memory expansion requires DDR4 registered ECC modules compatible with the C620 chipset. Network uplinks need SFP+ transceivers and fibre or direct-attach cables for the 10 Gb ports.
