The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rackmount server built for storage-heavy workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with 24 cores, and 64 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. A PERC H730P RAID controller manages up to 24 hot-swap 2.5-inch SAS bays, currently populated with two 300 GB 10K drives. Dual 1100 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise provide redundancy and remote management out of the box.

Suited For Virtualisation

This configuration fits virtual desktop infrastructure, software-defined storage clusters and service-provider hosts that need high drive density in 2U. Open the iDRAC9 Enterprise web interface or enter the BIOS; both CPUs will show as 24-core 2.1GHz processors and the H730P will appear with its 2GB cache and battery status.
