The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 1U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6126 processors. Each CPU provides twelve cores at 2.6 GHz with 19.25 MB cache. The system ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory in two 16 GB modules and four 1.92 TB SAS SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller.

PCIe Gen 3 and SAS storage limits

The platform offers up to eight PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots for additional networking or accelerator cards. Storage is confined to the eight 2.5-inch drive bays and the SAS interface of the installed SSDs.
