This PCIe 4.0 x4 to OCuLink SFF-8612 adapter card adds a standard external PCIe port to a desktop or small-form-factor PC. The card fits any motherboard PCIe x4, x8 or x16 slot running at x4 electrical speed and is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 x4 systems.

Build Integration and Slot Flexibility

The board installs in a standard internal PCIe slot and includes both a 120 mm full-height bracket and an 80 mm low-profile bracket for ATX, micro-ATX, slim or compact HTPC and server chassis. It requires an SFF-8611 cable to link the external device and supplies only 3.3 V power through the OCuLink port; the connected enclosure must provide its own 12 V power. Hot-plugging is not supported, so the system must be powered off before installation or removal.

PCIe 4.0 x4 Gen4 signalling delivers maximum throughput for high-speed external storage and GPU workloads, while PCIe 3.0 x4 backward compatibility keeps older platforms functional. The single OCuLink SFF-8612 female port handles one external device at a time, so builds needing multiple simultaneous external PCIe links will require additional adapter cards. The 3.3 V-only output means power-hungry peripherals must rely on their own dedicated power supplies.
