The chassis provides eight SFF bays; two are populated with 600GB 15K SAS drives that include trays. Additional drives require their own HP SFF trays and SAS data cables compatible with the H240 controller.

Will the H240 controller recognise my older 3Gbps SAS drives if I install them in the remaining bays?

The H240 supports 12Gbps SAS and 6Gbps SATA. It will negotiate down to 3Gbps SAS, so legacy drives are detected and can be used in RAID 0, 1 or 5 arrays.
