This 1U rack server fits two Xeon E5-2640v3 processors, eight cores each at 2.6 GHz, with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. It ships with two 600 GB 15K 2.5-inch SAS drives on an H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies and a Matrox G200 GPU complete the base configuration.

Verify rack depth and SAS backplane compatibility

The chassis accepts eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays and uses the Smart HBA H240ar for 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity. Confirm your rack provides enough depth for a 1U unit and that existing cabling matches the SAS interface. Memory expansion uses DDR4 registered ECC modules up to 2400 MT/s, actual speed depending on the installed processors. No operating system is included.

Redundant power and hot-swap cooling manage heat

Two 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies share the load, reducing strain on each unit during normal operation. Hot-swap fans adjust speed to the thermal load from up to 36 total cores and 15 K RPM drives, keeping acoustic output lower than single-supply designs. The 1U form factor concentrates airflow, so ensure the rack environment supplies adequate front-to-rear cooling.

Should I add more DDR4 now or stay with the installed 8GB?

The board has 24 DDR4 slots supporting up to 3TB total. The installed 8GB uses only one slot, so you can add 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB ECC Registered modules up to 2400MT/s to match your workload.

What does the 12Gb SAS controller mean for the two 600GB drives?

The H240ar runs the 6Gbps SAS drives at their native speed and provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 across the eight 2.5-inch bays.
