Suits single-processor workloads needing dense 1U

The configuration fits virtualisation hosts, web tiers or file-serving roles that can run on twelve threads and 96GB RAM. Two installed drives limit local capacity to 2TB raw. The B140i controller handles only SATA media and does not accelerate parity calculations. Buyers who need hardware RAID acceleration, SAS drive support or more than two processors should consider other platforms.

B140i software RAID restricts drives to SATA only

This controller does not support SAS or other interfaces. The eight SFF bays therefore accept SATA hard drives or SSDs exclusively. If the deployment requires SAS connectivity or a hardware RAID adapter, this server will not meet that requirement.
