This HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 is a 1U rack server built for density and reliability. A single six-core Xeon E5-2643 v3 at 3.4 GHz powers the unit with twelve threads through hyper-threading. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory fill the board, and two 1 TB SAS drives connect through a Smart HBA H240ar controller. Dual 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running.

Suited for virtualisation hosts and database nodes

The eight 2.5-inch drive bays and 24 DIMM slots give room to grow storage and memory inside the same 1U chassis. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are available on the H240ar. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than two processors should look at a different platform. The Matrox G200 graphics provide only basic console output.

Single-socket ceiling at 64 GB installed

Memory tops out at 64 GB with one processor because the second socket is empty. Adding the second Xeon unlocks the full 3 TB capacity across all 24 slots. If the workload demands more than 64 GB today, the extra CPU must be purchased before larger DIMMs can be used.
