The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4 GHz. It ships with 4 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives on an H240ar controller. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation in data-centre racks.

Storage interface limits and expansion

The H240ar controller supports 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA links with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch SFF bays; two are occupied by the supplied drives. Optional universal media bay, NVME drive options or additional SFF cages can be added to the remaining bays, but no media drives or SSD are included in this configuration.

Installed memory capacity is the deciding factor

Only 4 GB of DDR4 is installed across 24 DIMM slots, far below the 3 TB maximum the platform can address. Buyers who need a production-ready memory footprint must budget for additional registered ECC modules before deployment. The single-socket configuration also leaves the second processor socket empty for a future upgrade.
