Twelve large-form-factor bays hold two 300 GB 15K SAS drives on an H240ar controller. The 2U chassis includes redundant hot-swap 500 W power supplies for continuous operation.

The board provides 24 DIMM slots but the installed 32 GB already reaches the listed maximum capacity. Twelve front 3.5-inch bays are populated with two drives; a rear cage can add three more LFF or two SFF bays at the cost of the second riser slot.

Redundant power and SAS connectivity for daily use

Dual 500 W supplies share load and allow one to be replaced without shutdown. The H240ar controller delivers 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA links with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 support. Front-accessible drive trays simplify swap-outs while the Matrox G200eH2 graphics handles basic console output.

Should I choose the 12-bay LFF version or a 24-bay SFF model?

This unit provides 12 LFF 3.5-inch bays with two drives installed. If you need more spindles in the same 2U height, a 24-bay SFF chassis exists but uses 2.5-inch drives; the LFF version here maximises capacity per drive.

What does the 3.4 GHz clock speed mean for real-world throughput?
