The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need balanced compute and storage density. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 96GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The Smart HBA H240ar controller provides 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 support. Dual 500W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running through a supply failure.

Upgrade path from single-socket

This server replaces single-socket systems limited to fewer cores and smaller memory ceilings. Adding the second supported Xeon E5 v3 processor doubles the core count to a maximum of 12 and unlocks the full 24 DIMM slots for up to 3TB of DDR4. The jump is worth it when workloads outgrow the installed 96GB ceiling or when parallel threads demand more than six cores. The 8-bay SFF chassis also accepts optional NVME or additional SFF backplanes for storage growth.

The installed 96GB DDR4 fills a portion of the 24 available slots, leaving headroom to scale memory to the platform maximum of 3TB using 64GB modules at up to 2400MT/s. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays handle SAS or SATA SSDs and HDDs under the H240ar RAID engine. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics with 16MB video memory covers basic console output only. Buyers who need GPU compute, more than eight front drives without expansion kits, or an operating system pre-installed should look elsewhere.
