Practical limits of 12 Gbps SAS

The twelve gigabit SAS link caps sustained throughput at the drive's native mechanical speed rather than the bus ceiling. A 7.2 K spindle cannot saturate the interface during sequential work, so the bottleneck stays with rotational latency and areal density. Dual-port SAS still provides path redundancy for array rebuilds.

512e sector format decides compatibility

The 512 emulation layer lets the drive appear as five hundred twelve byte sectors to controllers that do not support native four K sectors. RAID cards, HBAs and backplanes must expose 512e logical blocks or the volume will not mount. Systems limited to legacy 512n only cannot use this drive.
