Will the six 2.5" SATA drives in this enclosure work with an older motherboard that only has SATA 3 Gb/s ports?

The backplane supports SATA 600 (6 Gb/s) and is backward-compatible with 3 Gb/s ports, so the drives will operate at the slower speed without any configuration changes.

How can I verify the Active Power Technology is actually spinning down idle drives after installation?

Listen for the drives to spin down after the inactivity timeout; the front-panel LEDs will change from solid to blinking to show the low-power state.

Does the package include the six SATA data cables and the 5.25" mounting screws, or must I buy them separately?

The box contains the backplane cage, a 4-pin Molex power cable and mounting screws for the 5.25" bay; six SATA data cables are not included and must be purchased separately.
