USB 3.0 and UASP Limits

The adapter reaches 5 Gbps over USB 3.0 and drops to 480 Mbps on USB 2.0 or 1.1 hosts. UASP support can raise real-world throughput by up to 70 percent compared to standard USB 3.0 bulk endpoints, but the ceiling remains the 5 Gbps bus limit. The ASM1153E chipset handles the SATA 6 Gbps to USB 3.0 translation.

Capacity and Power Boundaries

Bus power from the host is sufficient for 2.5 inch drives that operate on 5 V only. The adapter cannot run 3.5 inch or 5.25 inch drives because they require 12 V which the USB port cannot supply. It accepts SATA I, II, and III drives of any capacity the host operating system can address.
