Product identity

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for office work and mobile professionals. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, an Intel Core i5-8265U quad-core processor, 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. Integrated Intel UHD graphics drive the 1366 x 768 display.

Interface limits

The 802.11ac wireless link and Bluetooth 5.1 handle typical office traffic but can saturate on heavy file transfers. Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports share 5 Gbit/s bandwidth, so simultaneous high-speed drives and external monitors compete for throughput. The single HDMI output supports one external screen at 60 Hz.

Installation notes

Memory is soldered onboard with no SO-DIMM slot, so the 8GB capacity cannot be increased after purchase. The NVMe SSD is replaceable but requires removing the bottom cover and disconnecting the 50 WHr battery first.
