Check bay space and host controller

The adapter is a bare rack; you supply your own 2.5" SAS or SATA drives. It fits four drives up to 9.5 mm thick and powers them all from one 15-pin SATA power connector.

Should I pick the 6 Gbit/s SATA path or the 12 Gbit/s SAS path for my build?

Choose SATA 6 Gbit/s for any standard motherboard or controller. Use the 12 Gbit/s SAS path only if you have a SAS host bus adapter or RAID card that supports it.
