RS485 CAN HAT for Raspberry Pi

This HAT adds RS485 and CAN interfaces to Raspberry Pi boards from the Zero series through the Pi 5. It uses an onboard MCP2515 controller with SPI and an SIT65HVD230DR transceiver for CAN, plus an SP3485 transceiver for RS485 half-duplex UART communication. The board operates at 3.3 V and includes development resources with wiringPi and Python examples.

Check pin header and voltage compatibility

Verify that your Raspberry Pi model provides a standard 40-pin GPIO header and 3.3 V logic levels before fitting the HAT. The board draws power from the Pi’s 3.3 V rail and uses SPI and UART pins for the MCP2515 and SP3485 transceivers. Reserved control pins are available if you plan to stack another control board on top.

Sustained load with TVS protection and termination

Onboard TVS devices suppress surge and transient spike voltages on both RS485 and CAN lines during continuous operation. A 120 Ω terminal resistor for each interface can be enabled via DIP switch to maintain signal integrity over long cable runs. Automatic TX/RX control on the RS485 side reduces software overhead in extended sessions.
