LGA 1200 ATX Motherboard

The MSI MAG B460 TOMAHAWK uses the Intel B460 chipset and an LGA 1200 socket to support 10th generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron processors. Four DDR4 slots accept up to 128 GB of dual-channel memory at 2933 MHz. The ATX form factor provides one full-length PCIe 3.0 x16 slot from the CPU, a second x16 slot from the PCH running at x4, two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, six SATA III ports and two M.2 interfaces.

Installation Notes

The board fits standard ATX mounting holes and uses a conventional 24-pin plus 8-pin CPU power layout. A pre-installed I/O shield simplifies rear-panel alignment. Clear the CMOS with the onboard button if the system fails to post after a memory change. The primary x16 slot shares bandwidth with the M.2 slots, so populating both M.2 connectors may reduce the top slot to x8 electrically.

Interface Limits

Dual-channel DDR4 tops out at 2933 MHz on this chipset; faster modules will downclock. PCIe 3.0 caps the primary graphics slot at 16 GT/s and the secondary x16 slot at x4 speed. SATA III remains limited to 6 Gbps per port, while the two M.2 interfaces share the same PCH lanes as the extra PCIe slots. The 2.5 Gbps and 1 Gbps LAN controllers each negotiate their rated maximum only with a matching switch port.
