This 512GB kit contains sixteen 32GB DDR5 4800 modules built as 1Rx4 registered ECC RDIMMs. It targets administrators who need maximum memory capacity in Supermicro GPU SuperServer models such as the SYS-821GE-TNHR, SYS-821GV-TNR and SYS-421GE-TNRT. The modules operate at 1.10V and carry a CL40 latency rating.

DDR5 4800 registered ECC constraints

Registered ECC RDIMMs add a register between the memory controller and the DRAM, which stabilises large populations of modules but adds one cycle of latency. The DDR5 4800 standard caps the data rate at 4800 MT/s and the PC5-38400 bandwidth figure, so throughput cannot exceed that limit regardless of the processor. Mixing these registered modules with unbuffered DIMMs is not supported and will prevent the system from posting.

Upgrade from smaller DDR5 RDIMM populations

The kit replaces any smaller DDR5 4800 registered ECC configuration — for example eight or four 32GB modules — when the workload demands the full 512GB capacity. The jump is worth it when virtualization density, in-memory databases or GPU-accelerated compute exceed the current memory ceiling. It is not for systems that only accept unbuffered memory or platforms limited to lower maximum capacities.
