What this 5-port Gigabit switch does

The Netgear ProSafe GS105NA adds five 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports to an existing wired network. It operates as an unmanaged Layer 2 switch with a 2K MAC address table and store-and-forward switching. Plug-and-play installation requires no software or configuration, making it suited for small offices or home offices that need instant gigabit expansion.

Check cabling and power before ordering

Each port auto-negotiates speed and duplex, so existing Cat5e or better cables will deliver up to 2000 Mbps full-duplex throughput. The unit supports IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet and draws power from an external adapter; verify you have a free mains socket near the intended desktop or wall-mount location. No PoE, stacking, SNMP or management features are present, so ensure those are not required.

Behaviour under sustained load

The 128 KB packet buffer and store-and-forward method maintain consistent frame integrity during continuous traffic. IEEE 802.1p and DSCP-based QoS prioritise latency-sensitive streams such as voice and video when the network is busy. Jumbo frame support reduces per-packet overhead for large transfers, while the metal enclosure passively dissipates heat without fan noise during prolonged operation.

The switch includes the metal desktop unit and a power adapter; Ethernet cables are not supplied so you must provide your own Cat5e or better patch leads.

Choose the 5-port GS105NA when you only need to connect a few devices such as a router, PC, printer and access point; step up to 8 or 16 ports if you have more wired endpoints.

2000Mbps is the full-duplex total; a single gigabit connection moves data at 1000Mbps in one direction at a time.
