Portable NVMe Enclosure

The Orico enclosure turns a single M.2 NVMe SSD into a portable USB-C drive. It accepts M-key and B+M-key modules in the 2280 form factor. SATA-based M.2 drives and PCIe AHCI devices are not supported. The aluminium chassis with integrated cooling vest and thermal pad helps maintain performance during sustained transfers.

Check Your Drive and Port

Verify that your SSD is an NVMe model in the 2280 size with an M or B+M key before ordering. The enclosure connects via USB Type-C using the USB 3.2 Gen2x2 standard, so the host port must support 20 Gbps operation to reach the quoted speeds. A USB-C to USB-A cable limited to 10 Gbps is also included for older ports.

Thermals and Power

The all-aluminium body and wraparound cooling vest conduct heat away from the drive without any moving parts, so the unit runs silently. Power is drawn entirely from the host USB connection; no external adapter is required. In normal use the enclosure stays cool to the touch while delivering measured sequential reads of 1875.41 MB/s and writes of 1874.02 MB/s.

Does the enclosure include the SSD or only the case and cable?

The enclosure ships without an SSD; you supply any M.2 PCIe NVMe M-Key or B+M-Key 2280 drive up to 4 TB. The box contains the aluminum case, cooling vest, silicone thermal pad and a dual-headed USB cable with USB-C and USB-A connectors.

Which M.2 NVMe sizes and key types are supported by this enclosure?

Only 2280-length M.2 PCIe NVMe drives with M-Key or B+M-Key notches are compatible. M.2 SATA, PCIe AHCI and other key types will not fit or function.

What real-world throughput can I expect from the 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface?
