This OWC upgrade kit supplies 32 GB of DDR3 1333 memory across four 8 GB registered DIMMs. It is built for the Lenovo System x3950 X5 and other workstation or server platforms that require ECC registered modules. The kit replaces a range of Lenovo part numbers and cannot be used in standard desktop computers or mixed with unbuffered memory.
Each module operates at the standard DDR3 voltage of 1.5 V with CL9 latency. Registered buffering and ECC circuitry add minimal overhead while providing error correction for continuous server workloads. No heat spreader is fitted so airflow through the chassis determines module temperature. Power consumption scales with the 1333 MT/s data rate and the four-module population.
The 240 pin form factor fits DDR3 DIMM sockets on qualified server and workstation boards. Registered signalling demands a compatible memory controller so the platform must support registered DIMMs. Four modules fill four slots and leave any remaining slots free for further registered expansion. The kit will not function in systems that only accept unbuffered or non ECC memory.
