The Raspberry Pi 5 16GB is a single-board computer built around a Broadcom BCM2712 system-on-chip. It targets makers, educators and embedded engineers who need a compact Linux platform with desktop-class responsiveness. The 64-bit quad-core Cortex-A76 processor runs at 2.4GHz and includes cryptography extensions for accelerated security workloads.
Memory capacity and headroom
Sixteen gigabytes of LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM provide ample headroom for multi-tab browsing, container workloads and memory-heavy data-processing scripts. The shared 2MB L3 cache and 512KB per-core L2 caches keep the cores fed during sustained compute tasks. Very large in-memory databases or heavy virtualisation clusters will eventually exhaust the available RAM.
Build quality and daily connectivity
The board integrates dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless peripheral and network links without extra dongles. Dual 4Kp60 HDMI outputs with HDR support drive two high-resolution displays directly from the VideoCore VII GPU. The RP1 southbridge doubles aggregate USB bandwidth, so external UAS storage and high-speed peripherals transfer data noticeably faster than on earlier models.

Will the Raspberry Pi 5 16GB board fit into the same case I use for my older Pi model?
The board uses a new RP1 southbridge and revised I/O layout, so existing cases for earlier full-size Raspberry Pi computers will not fit without modification.
