Direct-insert SATA dock

The Sabrent EC-DFLT is a lay-flat docking station that accepts 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA hard drives or SSDs. It provides ten bays for high-volume drive swapping without enclosures. The dock connects through USB 3.0 and works with Windows from 2000 through 10 plus Mac OS X. No drivers are required for operation.

Passive cooling and USB power

The unit has no fan, so it runs silently while drives are seated in the open bays. A 12 V AC adapter supplies power to the dock and the installed drives. Data moves at up to 5 Gbps over USB 3.0 and falls back to 480 Mbps on USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports. An on-off switch cuts power to all bays at once.

Build integration and drive flexibility

The dock needs a free USB 3.0 port and a mains outlet for its power supply. It frees the builder from fitting multiple internal drive cages or hot-swap bays inside the chassis. Each bay takes any capacity SATA drive up to 8 TB, and drives can be inserted or removed while the system is running.
