The StarTech ST20000SPEXI adds two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports through a single PCI Express slot. It is built around the Intel X540 chipset and targets high-bandwidth clients, servers and workstations that need wired 10 Gbps connectivity. The card supports 100, 1000 and 10GBASE-T speeds on each RJ45 port.

Installation requires an available PCI Express 2.0 x8 lane (or higher) and a free full-height or low-profile bracket space. The board measures 4.70 by 6.40 inches and weighs 0.35 lb. Two LEDs per port show link speed and activity, and the package supplies both brackets and an instruction manual.

Intel X540 delivers sustained full-duplex

Each port can sustain up to 20 Gbps full duplex when aggregated, and the chipset supports IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation and 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet. PXE boot and Intel Virtualization Technology for Connectivity remain active during continuous traffic. The card draws power from the slot without an auxiliary connector.
