SATA docking for bare 2.5in and 3.5in drives

The ViewSonic EC-DFLT is a single-bay lay-flat dock that accepts bare SATA I, II or III hard drives and SSDs in 2.5in or 3.5in form factors. It connects to the host via an attached USB 3.0 Type-A cable and is intended for Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS and Linux systems. The dock does not support IDE, M.2 SATA, M.2 NVMe, SAS or drives already housed in a USB enclosure. Buyers who need to read M.2 or NVMe drives cannot use this product.

Included 12V adapter and UASP support

A 12V/2A power adapter is included and is required for 3.5in drives because USB bus power cannot spin them up reliably. 2.5in drives are generally bus-powered, though the adapter is recommended for stability. The dock uses UASP when the host controller supports it, and the package also supplies the USB Type-A host cable. No drivers are needed on the listed operating systems and an LED indicates power and drive activity. Buyers whose computers only have USB-C ports will need a separate USB-C to USB-A adapter.

Up to 20 TB capacity with typical HDD speeds

The dock supports drives up to 20 TB, giving ample headroom for current high-capacity SATA HDDs and SSDs. Mechanical drives typically transfer at 100-160 MB/s, which is the drive’s own limit, while SSD speeds vary up to the USB 3.0 interface maximum of 5 Gbps. The bridge does not pass S.M.A.R.T. data and on macOS a drive may need remounting after sleep. Buyers who need S.M.A.R.T. monitoring or multi-bay simultaneous access should look elsewhere.
