  • Flexible data protection with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD
  • Faster network access via 2.5 GbE and 1 GbE ports
  • Expand connectivity with two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 ports

Purpose-built 4-bay rackmount NAS

The Buffalo TeraStation 3030 TS3430RN1604 arrives populated with four 4 TB drives for 16 TB total capacity. An Annapurna Labs AL-524 quad-core processor at 2.0 GHz and 2 GB DDR4 memory handle file serving, backup and RAID management for small offices or workgroups.

Network limits and expansion

Two RJ-45 ports provide 2.5 GbE and 1 GbE links conforming to IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3ab, so throughput tops out at 2.5 Gbps on the faster port. Three USB ports (two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0) add external storage or printer sharing but do not increase LAN bandwidth.

Installation notes

The 1U chassis mounts in a standard rack using the included rail kit and operates on 100-240 VAC power. Drives are pre-installed; RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 or JBOD can be selected during initial setup. Buyers needing more than four drive bays, 10 GbE connectivity or ECC memory should consider other platforms.

Preguntas sobre este artículo

Should I pick RAID 5 or RAID 6 for the 16TB (4 x 4TB) setup?

RAID 5 uses one drive for parity, leaving three drives of capacity, while RAID 6 uses two drives for parity, leaving two drives of capacity; both survive drive failures as described.

What does the 2.0GHz quad-core Annapurna Labs AL-524 processor mean for everyday file serving?

The quad-core AL-524 at 2.0GHz with 2GB DDR4 handles multi-user SMB/AFP/NFS transfers and RAID parity calculations without bottlenecks on the 2.5GbE link.

How does the single 2.5GbE port limit real-world throughput?

The 2.5GbE RJ-45 caps sustained reads and writes at roughly 2.5Gbps, so large sequential transfers will not exceed that ceiling even if the RAID array is faster.
