Dual 10-core Silver 4210R server

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each running at 2.4 GHz with ten cores and 13.75M cache. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 memory across four 16GB modules and four 800GB SAS SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. The platform targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and general-purpose compute clusters that need redundant power and remote management.

PCIe Gen 3 and 10 GbE ceiling

The chassis provides up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for additional controllers, NICs or accelerators, but the bus generation limits throughput to the Gen 3 maximum. Network I/O is handled by an Intel X550 dual-port 10 GbE RJ45 adapter plus two 1 GbE ports, so aggregate bandwidth tops out at the 10 GbE line rate. Storage expansion is confined to the eight 2.5-inch drive bays and the SAS interface of the H730P controller.

Tool-less rails and iDRAC9 access

The server includes sliding rails and a front bezel for tool-less rack mounting, while the 1100W redundant power supplies slide in from the rear. Initial configuration is performed through the iDRAC9 Enterprise interface, which gives full out-of-band control over firmware updates, hardware health and virtual console. Common issues arise when firmware versions across the RAID controller, NIC and iDRAC drift out of alignment, so a coordinated update cycle is recommended before production deployment.
