1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2603v3 six-core 1.6GHz processor and 16GB of DDR4 memory into a 1U chassis. Eight hot-plug 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with 300GB 15K SAS drives on a PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0/1/5/10/50/60. A redundant 550W power supply and iDRAC8 remote management are included.

Upgrade from older 1U or tower servers

The jump makes sense when you need SAS throughput and hardware RAID in a single rack unit without moving to a dual-socket configuration. The H330 controller adds 12Gbps SAS connectivity and the six-core Xeon handles threaded workloads that dual-core or four-core predecessors could not. Memory can scale to 384GB across 12 DIMM slots when a second processor is added.

Build around two PCIe 3.0 slots and four 1GbE ports

The chassis provides two PCIe 3.0 expansion slots for additional networking or storage controllers. Four onboard 1GbE ports handle baseline connectivity while iDRAC8 gives out-of-band access. The DVD drive and Matrox G200 video occupy minimal space, leaving the front bays free for the eight SAS drives already installed. Rail kit and bezel are not included.
