Installation notes and common pitfalls

The server arrives without hard drives, so you must supply compatible 3.5-inch SATA or SAS drives and install them in the trays. Memory is already populated to the 384 GB maximum, leaving no free DIMM slots for expansion. The PERC H730 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through; configure the virtual disks before installing an operating system. Plastic mounting feet are not included, so plan for rack rails or a shelf.

Pre-order checklist

Verify that your rack can accommodate a 5U unit and that you have rails or a shelf, as the plastic feet are not supplied. Confirm the drives you intend to use are 3.5-inch SATA or SAS models, because the backplane and trays do not support other form factors. Ensure the dual 750 W power supplies match your facility’s power distribution and voltage. The system includes iDRAC 8 Express for remote management and a Broadcom 5720 dual-port 1 GbE LOM for network connectivity.
