Compact workstation core

The ASUS NUC 16 Pro barebone ships with an Intel Core Ultra 7 356H processor and 64GB of DDR5-5600 memory already installed. A 2TB NVMe SSD occupies the primary M.2 2280 slot, leaving a second M.2 2242 bay open for additional storage. Dual 2.5GbE LAN ports, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 handle wired and wireless networking. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports and two HDMI 2.1 outputs drive up to four 4K displays at 60Hz. The unit includes a VESA mount for behind-monitor installation.

Sustained thermal behaviour

The 45W processor shares a compact vapor-chamber cooler with the integrated Intel Graphics, so clock speeds settle below the single-core turbo after several minutes of continuous compute or encode workloads. Fan noise rises noticeably once the chassis hits its thermal ceiling, but the system remains stable without throttling to base frequency. Memory bandwidth stays at DDR5-5600 under load because both SO-DIMM slots are populated. The second M.2 slot runs at PCIe Gen4 speeds, so a second NVMe drive will not saturate the Gen5 link of the primary slot.

Upgrade path and limits

This barebone replaces a traditional tower workstation for users who need dual 2.5GbE, Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 7 in a VESA-mountable chassis. The jump is worthwhile when desk space, acoustic profile or port density matter more than discrete GPU performance. It does not suit buyers who require a second graphics card, more than 128GB of RAM, or internal 3.5-inch drive bays. The single 262-pin SO-DIMM layout means future memory upgrades must match DDR5-5600 or faster modules in pairs.
