The Dell PowerEdge R230 fits a single Intel Xeon E3-1220 v5 quad-core processor at 3.0GHz with 4GB of DDR4 memory installed across four DIMM slots. It ships with two 1TB 7.2K 3.5-inch SATA enterprise drives and a DVD-ROM drive. The platform targets small businesses or remote offices needing a space-efficient host for file, print or light virtualization tasks.

Cabled drive bays and fixed power supply

Two internal 3.5-inch bays accept cabled SATA or SAS drives, limiting hot-swap convenience but keeping the chassis depth short at 19.5 inches. A single 250W cabled power supply provides power without redundancy, so a failure requires downtime. The 1U height leaves only low-profile and one full-height PCIe 3.0 slot for add-in cards, and the iDRAC8 Express remote-management module is included for out-of-band control.

Memory ceiling and expansion limits
